The Habitat for Humanity Club has already kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with an active and exciting start! The club, advised by Engineering Design teacher Mr. O’Keefe, has been getting involved with the local Habitat Organization. On October 7, 2024, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity invited the club to help out at one of their houses. While at the site, located in Berkeley Township, eight of the club’s members helped paint essential house materials. This included floor trim, door and window trim, and doors.
Also while there, the club was welcomed on a tour of the house the organization is building. During the tour, members of the club were able to learn about topics such as Habitat’s process of selecting homeowners, the building process, and what materials are used. Mr. O’Keefe was able to give an on-site lesson, corresponding to concepts learned in his Architectural Design course. Also while on the field trip, members were given the opportunity to visit one of Habitat’s other building sites just a few blocks away. Overall, this event was a great opportunity for the members of the Habitat for Humanity Club to get involved in their community while also learning about all different aspects of the Habitat Organization and Construction itself.
The club is only getting started for this school year! Not only have they just gone on this fun trip, but they also just announced their new executive board for the 24-25 School Year! The club is always looking for new members who have a drive to get involved! Email Mr. O’Keefe or visit him in Room 66 if you’re looking to become a part of this great club!
