Over the weekend of November 15-17, the drama program performed their fall show, A Night on Broadway in which they dove into the great works of Alan Menken and shared how he changed Disney forever.
Alan Menken, born in 1947, wrote some of Disney’s most classic and famous movie songs. His work includes scores like The Little Mermaid, Tangled, and Newsies. All of these movies and broadway shows are performed with colorful sets and enthusiastic performers from all grade levels. A selection of cast members throughout the play shared information about Alan’s accomplishments and his life during peak creations. Alan Menken was the 16th celebrity to receive EGOT status, which means he has received all 4 major entertainment awards – an Emmy (TV), Grammy (music), Oscar (film), and Tony (Broadway) – in his career.
Brooke Norton and Kaitlyn Gentilcore did an outstanding job with their roles of Ursula and Ariel from The Little Mermaid. The song “Colors of The Wind” from the movie Pocahontas was sung by Arianna Boutsikaris. The broadway show Newsies featured a handful of cast members including Braydon Little, Luca Canzoneri, and more. Lucas Haug sang “Grow for Me” from the Broadway sensation Little Shop of Horrors. Also from Little Shop was a duet between Carly Straccia and Kylie Vandiver named “Suddenly Seymour.”
All of these cast members on stage had their shining moments, and full of life is a great way to describe this show. Brianna McNamee, Luca Canzoneri, Megan Gallas, Alyssa Ely, Zachary Dean and Braydon Little all honor their last fall performance as seniors with important lead roles and strong lead vocals.
Many forces besides the scenes went into making this show. Directing and piano playing was done by Ms. Beth Moore. Overall A Night on Broadway was a memorable and amazing tribute to Alan Menken performed by the Central Regional Fall 2024 cast.
