WAE, or Women Advocating for Equality, is a newly formed club that just started up this year, and this powerful club is ready to make waves at Central Regional. I’ve recently been able to talk to the two co-founders, Monica and Angelina, on their inspiration to start this notable club, and their plans for the fourth marking period and the 2024-2025 school year.
When I asked why they created the club in the first place, Ang told me that “they started WAE to try to make Central a more inclusive, comfortable, and welcoming environment for students,” giving them a safe space for people to talk about problems going on in their lives and how to solve the underlying issue of unfair treatment between men and women. Their club will be focused on networking and socializing between peers and other women in Central’s staff or around our community. In future meetings they are trying to get moving and powerful guest speakers to talk about how to stay confident as a woman and to never give up on their aspirations. They also wanted to take a group field trip to help volunteer around our community, for example go to a shelter and help women that are in need as well as create forever bonds between members of the club. They also want to start giving donations to charities and local shelters to further support women and make a positive difference around the Jersey Shore.
As a club member myself, I definitely recommend joining to help grow the club and help create a more comforting and optimistic school; every student is happily welcomed and the club usually holds meetings once a month. People who are also interested in wanting to help WAE can also give ideas in any future events that you want to do, as well as spreading awareness of how “important and valued” women are to society.
