“When women and girls are supported, they gain opportunities to speak up for their rights, and also to advocate for their communities. They are also able to rise in social standing, and they can feed this into future generations.” (Understanding Women’s Empowerment)
WHY?
What better place to start empowering the women in our society than to start a Women’s Empowerment club in our very own school? We, co-founders Monica Avalishvili and Angelina Allarde, considered this question together and ultimately didn’t hesitate to create the CRHS W.A.E Club. We highly value and acknowledge the importance of being an empowered woman, or a supportive advocate, especially in today’s society as well as in high school. We hope to prepare the bright and intelligent women students throughout our school community, and provide them with confidence to go out into the world and spread the same message.
WHAT?
W.A.E stands for “Women Advocating for Equality”, and we hold meetings at least once every month. When creating this club, we decided that one of our most important goals was to put our best foot forward to help the women in our school, not limited to students, feel that sense of empowerment and equality that everyone deserves. Aside from empowering our own in-school community, we are also making it a point to extend out into our community and fundraise in order to help out women and children struggling with heavy afflictions such as domestic violence or homelessness.
HOW?
We believe that everyone should feel confident and comfortable in their own being, and by coming together as a united club, we can help women feel like they are their best selves. We hope to achieve this by hosting small, intimate events where we could mentor, invite community guest speakers, and discuss the importance of women’s health, women’s safety, self image, and women’s rights. More worry free and stressless get togethers such as bracelet making and movie nights are another way that we would like to connect with our club members. We are also planning a few fundraisers for the future to help achieve our goals, so keep an eye out for those.
