As graduation approached for the class of 2023, some students reflected on their high school careers and offered these insights for members of the classes of 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.
- Some advice that I was never really told and never really figured out until recently is that you don’t need a big circle of friends. Throughout my years of high school I always tried to prove myself to people and the truth is not everyone is going to like you no matter how hard you try. But I’ve finally realized that I don’t need everyone to like me. As long as I have a few close friends, nobody else’s opinion matters. I genuinely believe that it is way more freeing to be able to be you than being somebody you are not.
- Participate in school activities!
- Start your resume, add onto it throughout high school
- Stop caring about people think about you
- Focus on yourself
- Keep your grades high; you’re not cool for having bad grades
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions/help
- Go to all the games/dances!
- Don’t involve yourself with the wrong crowd
- Stay out of trouble/drama
- Listen to your parents’/guardians’ advice
- Stay organized
- Don’t skip class
- Try your best
- Take chances!
- Don’t stress yourself out about being “popular”
- Be yourself
- Turn in assignments on time!
- Dress for yourself, not to impress others
- Stay focused on school; it should be your main priority!
- My advice to the coming underclassmen is that even if you’re extremely unmotivated, if you at least try to get your work done and hand it in, that’s better than not doing it at all.
- As a wise, experienced, graduating senior, the only advice I can think of is to be calm and stay organized. No need to worry about drama or who likes who just chillax and focus on your work because your grades do matter in the future when you apply to colleges. Focus on your work, but make sure to hang out with friends.
- You don’t realize till it’s over the time is flying. Make the most out of your high school experience and set your goals for the future. Start your future early if possible; don’t let school hold you back. It gets hard at times and you’re not going to love every second of it. Keep pushing forward – it will be over in no time. Be positive; have the mindset to be great and you will succeed. If you’re planning on not going to college or don’t have a plan for after high school, go to vocational school and you will be happy you did.
- Don’t put anything off, for classes or extracurricular activities
- Go to any field trip that interests you
- Senior prom is a once in a lifetime, don’t miss it
- Figuring out college helps for the next following years
- Enjoy every moment you have in high school. It goes by fast!
- Get involved in school activities!
- Go to every football game, school dance, ect.
- Do your resume early so you’re not rushing to finish it.
- Keep your grades up and pass your classes.
- Visit colleges early to know your options.
- Turn your work in on time!
- Try your best, and don’t stress out!
- Ask your teachers/guidance counselors for help.
- Keep your work neat and organized.
- Don’t skip your classes
- Stay out of drama and trouble!
- Remember, high school goes by fast, soak up every moment you have and enjoy all the good while you can, it will be over in the blink of an eye.
- The short answer: you pave your own path. You’ll have help along the way, but don’t completely depend on it. Sure, teachers are going to give you a little push but you are the one that makes the important decisions. If you highly want something and believe in that something, go after it. The end result is not guaranteed to be the outcome you are looking for, but treat it as a learning experience rather than a loss. All good things take time.
- It doesn’t matter if you are the life of every party or the quiet person, find that one or few people who keep you going and believe in you. I’ve always had a good group of friends throughout high school and I’m beyond grateful for that. Your grades matter a lot, but don’t spend every second of these 4 years studying and worrying about school work. Go out and do something.
