A Loss During a Win

Odell Beckham Jr. was injured during Sunday’s win against the Cincinnati Bengals. That night the Browns feared the wide receiver tore his ACL while trying to chase down cornerback Darius Phillips after Baker Mayfield threw an interception.

On Monday morning, reporter Josina Anderson confirmed the news when she tweeted: “Odell Beckham Jr. just text me that his ACL is torn and that his season is over.”

Minutes after the announcement athletes flooded Twitter to send Odell their well wishes. Veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald tweeted: “Keep your head held high bro… no challenge you can’t overcome.”

After the injury, the Browns went on to beat the Bengals 37-34 and currently sit at a 5-2 record. The team has struggled to have winning records in seasons past, but if the NFL playoffs started today they would be playing. The Browns have ways to go as they will have to face the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens. Combined, the two teams have a 10-1 record. The good news for Browns fans is Cleveland has plenty of more weapons. Wideout Jarvis Landry, running back Nick Chubb, and 2016 5th round pick Rashard Higgins. Although the receiver is likely to receive more touches, he is not as much of a threat to NFL opponents as the fourth best wideout in the league. The Browns will have to learn to navigate their road to this season’s playoffs without their wide receiver.
