Even on Halloween, juniors Izabella Brodbeck, Meghan Bilello and Whitney Rigodon must get some learning in.

As Halloween passed through the halls of Central Regional, a spooky and ecstatic air made its way through our school. Halloween morning the students awake bright and early, ready for what’s not such a typical Wednesday. We paint our faces, tease our hair, dressed to impress in a different way than usual, covering our skin with the hopes of embodying another for one day. As for the costumes, however, they certainly aren’t meaningless. The annual CR Halloween costume contest is today, of course! Every year the contest allows and encourages our students to push their creativity to its limits.

Throughout the day, passes are gradually slipped into the hands of some of the cutest fairies and tv show characters and monsters and couples and groups. As students enter the auditorium for 11th period, they are greeted with a room full of enthusiastic students, such as themselves, with hopes of leaving at the end of the day, prizes in hand, and a newfound reason to love this school.

I was lucky enough to get to talk to the one and only, Dwight Schrute. Dwight Schrute is a beet farmer from the hit tv series, The Office. He lives by his lovely mistress, Angela. Dwight was accompanied by his longtime office rival, Jim Halpert. The relationship between these two is complicated, to say the least. Dwight’s remarks about the contest were that, “It was pretty good. We got the dub. Of course it was fun, I made 25 dollars. Free money for dressing up, you can’t beat that.” Dwight would never pass up an opportunity to win! Scott Fifield, Dwight’s temporary alter ego, said that he wasn’t ridiculously excited to become Dwight for the day. In his words, “Dwight is not a good looking man. Thus, I was compared to him, and it hurt.” He did come out on top at this contest, however, making the troublesome day worthwhile!

I also got to talk to Dwight’s counterpart, Jim Halpert. As Jim puts it, the contest was a success. Reece Chevalier, who played Jim for the day says, “yes, the contest was fun. Yes, I was excited to dress up Halloween morning because I knew I would win money because I knew my costume was the best.” Dwight and Jim were ecstatic upon finding out that they won a prize. This was one of the few moments they actually got along, in fact!

Some noteworthy people whom I did not get to interview, but couldn’t leave out included a band of the cutest fairies from Pixie Hollow, one scary looking nun I ran away from in the gym, Tupac, gone but never forgotten, and last but certainly not least, the cutest preschool students to grace this Earth! Mrs. Horen’s preschool students made their rounds, looking cute as ever which is, personally, my favorite part of Halloween in school.

As the extravagantly long Halloween day came to a close, the spooky aire at Central left our halls with the 2:03 bell, signifying the students departure. So long ghosts, until next year!
